Egypt, 70BC, a merciless killer stalks the land. His mission: to find and destroy the last members of an ancient order, the Medjay – to eradicate the bloodline.
In peaceful Siwa, the town’s protector abruptly departs, leaving his teenage son, Bayek, with questions about his own future and a sense of purpose he knows he must fulfill.
Bayek sets off in search of answers, his journey taking him along the Nile and through an Egypt in turmoil, facing the dangers and the mysteries of the Medjay’s path.
51 BCE
Cleopatra VII ascends the Egyptian throne at the age of eighteen upon the death of her father, Ptolemy XII Neos Dionysos. She reigned as queen “philopator” and pharaoh with various male co-regents from 51 BCE until her death approximately twenty years later.
49 BCE
Bayek leaves Siwa after his wife, Aya, heading towards Alexandria. The events of Assassin’s Creed Origins begin.
48-47 BCE
A series of skirmishes and battles occurring between the forces of Julius Caesar, Cleopatra VII, Arsinoe IV, and Ptolemy XIII, between 48 and 47 BC. During this time Caesar was engaged in the civil war between himself and the forces of the Roman Senate. The series of events is known as The Siege of Alexandria.
In the aftermath, Ptolemy’s crown was passed to his younger brother Ptolemy XIV and Cleopatra as co-rulers. Caesar reportedly toured Egypt for two months with Cleopatra before renewing his activities in the civil war. Arsinoe was marched through Rome as a prisoner, banished to the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus, and later executed on the orders of Cleopatra and Mark Antony.
47 BCE
On the Ides of March (15 March according to Roman calendar) of 44 BCE, Caesar was due to appear at a session of the Senate. Several Senators had conspired to assassinate Caesar. Mark Antony, having vaguely learned of the plot the night before from a terrified liberator named Servilius Casca, and fearing the worst, went to head Caesar off. The plotters, however, had anticipated this and arranged for Trebonius to intercept him just as he approached the portico of the Theatre of Pompey, where the session was to be held, and detain him outside. (Plutarch, however, assigns this action to delay Antony to Brutus Albinus.) When he heard the commotion from the Senate chamber, Antony fled.
As Caesar arrived at the Senate, Tillius Cimber presented him with a petition to recall his exiled brother. The other conspirators crowded round to offer support. The senators encircle Caesar, a 19th-century interpretation of the event by Carl Theodor von Piloty. At the same time, Casca produced his dagger and made a glancing thrust at the dictator’s neck. Caesar turned around quickly and caught Casca by the arm. Within moments, the entire group, including Brutus, was striking out at the dictator. Caesar attempted to get away, but, blinded by blood, he tripped and fell; the men continued stabbing him as he lay defenceless on the lower steps of the portico. According to Eutropius, around 60 men participated in the assassination. He was stabbed 23 times.
30 BCE
Cleopatra is Assassinated by the Egyptian Assassin, Amunet.
The story of Assassin’s Creed Origins is divided into three parts, so far, starting with the Desert Oath novel by Oliver Bowden which is entirely set before the events of the game and theres Origins itself which will explore the events from Bayek’s departure from Siwa to Alexandria in 49 BCE and onwards, covering the story of the Siege of Alexandria and the arrival of Julius Caesar until a yet-to-be-known point. The third part of the story of Bayek will be told through the Assassin’s Creed Origins four-part comic mini-series by Titan, which is officially announced as a sequel to the game’s events, but the story will depend on how the game will end, as this is not yet known. So whether the game will end with Cleopatra’s death or before is yet to be seen, and based on that, the comics will follow.
The official description of the comics says that the series will “explore the first years of the Assassins Order, introducing new characters as well as notable historical figures.” It must be noted that the artwork of of the first issue of the Origins comics that the cover artwork shows Bayek’s blade similarly shaped like a snake, which may refer to Cleopatra’s assassination being poisoned by a snake, provided the game doesn’t conclude with Cleopatra’s assassination.
The official description of the comics also states that we will encounter new characters and historical figures. In addition, there are two yet-to-be-revealed story expansions for Origins which may focus on Cleopatra’s death, the Roman era that followed or perhaps a more personal story related to Bayek set around Egypt or Greece (provided the early rumors are true).
