In a recent interview with Assassin’s Central, game director Ashraf Ismail announced that for the first time ever in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, there will be difficulty settings for the game that can be changed at any time, he also added explaining the decision was to cater to an even wider gaming audience:
“Some people play for the historic context,” Ismail said. “some people for the narrative, some forthe gameplay, and what we felt was by going deeper into the gameplay challenge of the game we’re feeding one part of the audience, but not others so it was a natural step for us to think ‘well, let’s give difficulty settings.’”
Players can change the difficulty at any time even during hairy combat situations if they get stuck. The option to start at Normal and decide to scale higher or lower will also be available. “If you really want that very difficult challenge you can set the game to a harder setting,” continues Ismail. “We’ve seen situations where people have asked ‘y’know I want the game to stay at a normal, balanced difficulty but I’m having difficulty with this boss or this moment so can I switch?’ So yes we allow it to switch dynamically.”
During combat, enemy encounters will be altered in ways that weren’t described but will be different than simply lowering or increasing health bars.
