Edge Magazine’s cover story of Assassin’s Creed Origins (issue #311) is finally out digitally and in print. Here’s a summary of the story:
- As previously reported, Assassin’s Creed Origins will feature Abstergo Industries’ Animus to explore ancient egypt.
- There won’t be any tailing missions.
- The game won’t be demanding you to pick a stealthy play style.
- In specific missions, you are required to reach a specific target in a certain location. However, upon getting there, you won’t find your target, therefore players need to use the Dawn & Dusk feature to fast-forward from day to night and vice versa to be able to find that target, as due to the fact that NPC have their own lifecycles, they’re only available at certain locations in certain times of the day/night.
- While the game won’t have naval combat like Black Flag, Bayek will still be able to use a mixture of his melee, ranged and vehicle combat styles to fight off enemies anywhere from sand to underwater to aboard boats and ships.
- Bayek’s final design was the result of many iterations. Nevertheless, customization is prominent as different pieces of gear will alter his look.
- While most Assassin’s Creed games featured subtle weapons that are swift and small, Origins on the other hand, since it’s based in ancient Egypt, will feature more antiquated and therefore brutal armory.
- Due to the fact that ancient Egypt isn’t entirely documented, artists took advantage of that fact to mix between reality and fantasy. Fieldwork was require to create certainly landscapes accurately and the team took hundreds of pictures of the Nevada desert for reference purposes.
- Players can tame animals by shooting them with sleeping darts after unlocking that ability from the skill tree.
- The first prototypes of the game were created in Unity 3D.
- Each of the weapons in the game have their own pros and cons. A heavy axe requires to be slowly charged to knock enemies off the ground where follow up attacks will deal bonus damage. Staves yields low damaged but are quick and farther-reaching, while dual blades are swift and deadly. There are also bows which have different specifications and feats.
- Sometimes Bayek will show up at one place and find dead bodies indicating that a fight has ensued a while before his arrival, so he can simply loot and leave.
- Century-hopping time loops from Unity and Syndicate will not be returning in Origins, but there’s a similar element that director Ashraf Ismail loathes to spoil. We’re not actually in Egypt, but inside the animus yet they’re not anomalies, per se.”
