In an article on ComicBook.com, Ubisoft has reportedly hinted the presence of multiple timelines in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. This could be manifested in various ways, as the game could simply have more than one era to explore in a similar manner to Assassin’s Creed: Unity (Medieval and Revolutionary Paris), Assassin’s Creed II (the birth of Ezio vs. adult Ezio), the use of in-game devices to view other timelines (beside the Animus) such as the Masyaf Keys in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, or the presence of Time Anomalies within the Animus which allow the users to view more than one era, like Assassin’s Creed: Unity and Syndicate, the former allowed players to briefly run through medieval, Belle Epoch and WWII Paris and the latter gave an entire segment playing as Lydia Frye (a new character) in WWI. Another possibility would be in the form of DLC, such as Freedom Cry for Black Flag which takes place years after the original game.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will reportedly explore the creation of the Pieces of Eden and the conflict between the Assassins and Templars which predates the birth of the latest form of the Brotherhood at the hands of Bayek of Siwa. Perhaps the multiple timelines will explore the First Civilization era when the Pieces of Eden were created, or they could explore Bayek and/or Aya’s stories, which take places centuries later, but around nearby areas in Egypt and Rome.
In a recent Ubisoft survey sent to select players, numerous features were suggested for Odyssey’s season pass, including whether players desire to play as a totally different protagonist in a different setting, which could reinforce the idea that Odyssey could very well receive DLC focusing on Aya, Bayek or an original character in an entirely different era. It is likely that the DLC would be set in a place of similar architecture to Greece as the dev team often tends to want to reuse assets. Rome (where Aya travelled) is a good candidate, as well as Alexandria and Cyrene in Egypt, and perhaps due to the positive feedback Origins and its lead received, this could be a great way to give them closure or to push another chapter of their story.
