Few weeks back, we discovered an Assassin’s Creed project called Da Vinci’s Workshop, a VR experience that takes place within Leonardo Da Vinci’s workshop where players must solve numerous puzzles to recover a Piece of Eden, according to the official description. The game is also meant to support multiplayer.
The discovery of the new Assassin’s Creed project led to speculation this could be a big new project from Ubisoft, however, more background information has now been shared.
Clarifying the situation, a project page for the VR experience now reads: “Assassin’s Creed: Da Vinci’s Workshop is a collaboration project between my university, NHTV, and Ubisoft meant for in-house experimentation of VR. The project is being built using Unreal Engine 4, and while it’s designed to run on Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, it’s unlikely that it would skip PSVR if it’s ever meant to to happen.
An official statement was made: “Currently there is no plan for game to be commercially released or released at all.”
3D Artist Eythor Skulason worked on the Assassin’s Creed – Da Vinci Workshop VR Experience and shared some screenshots from the project itself showcasing the workshop’s interiors. He wrote:
“I worked on this project as a 3D Artist. Worked on both modelling, texturing assets and set dressing.
As part of the educational program, Da Vinci’s Workshop is a collaboration project between NHTV University of Applied Sciences and Ubisoft for in-house experimentation with Virtual Reality, in the form of an escape room using the Assassin’s Creed IP. The players are tasked to cooperatively solve numerous puzzles inside Leonardo’s workshop to recover a piece of Eden.”
Here are the screenshots which the artists has shared so far:
